Susan A. (Luoma) Rose

Susan A. Rose, age 79, of Saybrook Township, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at her home from natural causes.  She was born on May 26, 1943 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Ann (Kivela) and John H. Luoma.  She was an Ashtabula  area resident her entire life.

Susan was a 1961 Ashtabula High School graduate and received a degree from Cleveland State University.  She was employed as a counselor with the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation in excess of 20 years before her retirement, and she was a member of Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.

She was married in 1984 to Ronald Rose, who predeceased her.  Susan and Ron enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, and had a huge interest in gardening.  Susan loved to tour old homes and designed their home according to many ideas she garnered from these tours.  She was an animal lover and enjoyed the company of several dogs and cats during her lifetime.  Her love of plants and flowers was very evident at their home where she planted many varieties both indoors and outdoors.  

She was a member of the Finnish American Heritage Association where she made many lifelong friendships.  She had a deep interest in family history and the history of Ashtabula and her Finnish heritage.  She kept in touch with relatives in Finland and corresponded with her cousins regularly.

Susan and her brother, Neal, own Luoma's Campground in Saybrook and she made many friendships over the years in the operation of the camp.

Susan was predeceased by her parents and her husband, and is survived by her brother Neal Luoma.

Visitation will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022, followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. at Potti Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula OH 44004.  Burial of ashes will take place at a later date.  On line obituary and condolences may be viewed at www.pottifuneralhome.com.
