Ronald Silvieus Obituary

Ronald M. Silvieus, 84, of Ashtabula, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at home.  He was born April 13, 1935 to Glenn and Elsie (Welser) Silvieus.  He had 5 brothers; Ross, Roger, Ralph, Richard and Roy.  Ron was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Bulldogs/Edgewood High School.  He was a direct descendant of the Mayflower and had descendants in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.  His family were among the early pioneers of Ashtabula County.

Ron met his wife, Peg (Margaret Berry), while playing basketball for the Berry Mink Farm in Geneva.  He was the handsome basketball player and she was the pretty cheerleader.  They were married in 1957, lived their entire marriage in Ashtabula, and had five children; Rhonda, Rick, Robin, Ron and Renee.

Ron worked over 35 years, retiring in 1998 from Linde Wire/ESAB.  He was the UAW Local 1834 president for many years.  He was also a skilled carpenter, built his family’s first home and helped build many other homes and additions.

Ron was a member and regular attendee of Eagleville Bible Church. He passed his love of life onto his children and grandchildren.  He was passionate about the outdoors, whether it be fishing on Lake Erie or hunting bear and elk.  He took camping trips across the country and instilled the love of the outdoors in his family.  He was an avid sports fan of all Cleveland teams and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  He was also sports editor for several few years and was recently inducted into the Ashtabula County Basketball Hall of Fame.

As a true Silvieus through and through, he had a sweet tooth—he never passed up pie and ice cream.  Ron was fond of family gatherings; whenever his brothers and their families got together, they would form the Silvieus circle for storytelling.  He truly loved his family and spending time with everyone.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard and Ralph Silvieus; son, Rick; and young daughter, Robin.  He will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda (Bob) Wright of Kingsville OH, Renee (Dr. David) Rickson of Bay Village OH and son Ron (Lisa) Silvieus of Ashtabula OH;  brothers, Roy (Doris) Silvieus of Kingsville OH, Roger (Brenda) Silvieus of Plymouth MA, and Ross (Gerta) Silvieus of Rapid River MI; sister-in-law, Laura (Hulbert) Silvieus of Palm Beach FL; grandchildren, Amanda (Steve) Britton, Hope Silvieus, Judith (David) Loomis, Kayla (Damien) Wright, and Chloe, Jenna and Ben Rickson; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Avery, Bailey, Emma and Mila; and  many nieces and nephews from all over America.
