Paul Harold Tikkanen, 94, passed away August 7, 2020 at Villa at the Lake in Conneaut, Ohio. He was born April 28, 1926 in Ashtabula Harbor, Ohio, the son of John and Hilma (Tanka) Tikkanen. He had been a prior Saybrook area resident since 1955.
Paul graduated from Harbor High School in 1945. He graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1949. Paul lived and studied art in New York and Paris, France and for three winters in Mexico. He married Norma Stenberg in 1958 and together they made 13 trips to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. A self-employed artist and sign painter, he had won numerous awards in competitive art shows and the Cleveland Museum of Art bought two of his paintings for their collection. Paul was an active supporter of the arts at the Ashtabula Arts Center, the Conneaut Community Center and Lake Erie College. He had been a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma Stenberg Tikkanen; sister, Rene Alhquist; and brother, Eugene Tikkanen.
At his request, a private graveside service was held in Saybrook Cemetery.
