Marlene Ann Morrison, age 89, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022 at her home. She was born December 29, 1932, the daughter of George and Hazel (Nye) Bowers in Shamokin, Pennsylvania.
Marlene held an active role in the cat rescue community for decades. She also was an artist and had hosted her own show with dozens of her artworks. Her paintings earned her awards from the Great Lakes Region of the Astronomical League. Earlier in her life, she was proud to be a member of MENSA and was a small business owner in her field of expertise after working, starting in the 1950s at Addressograph Multigraph. At times she was an active boater, vocal in politics, and an early consumer of Isaac Asimov and science fiction. A true coal miner's daughter, she was present at some of Cleveland's first rock and roll concerts of the 1950s. Marlene was also a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Roger; her son, Rick Phillips and his wife, Lisa; and a granddaughter, Julie Phillips. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Jeanne Campensa. She also was aunt to Ann Jefferies and the late Phil Campensa.
A Celebration of Life will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 14,2022 at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, OH 44004.
