John Palm Obituary

John Floyd Palm, age 68, born November 26, 1950, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday evening, December 11, 2018, in Cleveland, Ohio at the David Simpson Hospice House following a fierce battle with stage four cancer. He was born in Ashtabula,  the oldest son of Donald (Whitey) and Jackolyn Palm.

Growing up in Ashtabula Harbor, he spent many days at Walnut Beach with his siblings and friends. He was a graduate of Harbor High class of 1969. John was a diehard fan of the Cleveland Browns (even though he turned the game off too soon sometimes) and the Ohio State Buckeyes, tying to never miss a game. For many years, he was a very active member of the Ashtabula Jaycees, traveling all over to many conventions. Enjoying life and taking it easy was his philosophy in life.

For over 15 years, he volunteered as a firefighter and E.M.T. for the Sheffield Fire Department. He worked at their auctions, dances, pancake breakfasts, and reverse raffles. He was also a member of Sons of the American Legion Squadron #103 and enjoyed volunteering with the L.E.A.F. project of Conneaut, helping families in need. One of his favorite things to say was, “why worry about things that you don’t have any control over.” John was a most caring and loving man.

He met the love of his life, Connie (Simon) Palm, and they were married in June 1979. In 1981 they had their first child, Alan John, of Ashtabula, followed by their daughter, Victoria Anne (Matthew) Orlando, of Conneaut, born in 1982. John was very excited to be a “papa” when we welcomed for the first time Taylor Michelle Orrenmaa into this world in 2002, followed by Carolena Nicole Orrenmaa in 2004. He was blessed again in 2013 when Victoria added two step daughters, Alexandrea Kate Orlando of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Kelby Elizabeth Orlando of Willoughby, Ohio. He is survived by his wife Connie; his children; his beautiful granddaughters; brothers, Donald (Marcia) Palm of Kingsville, and Douglas (Denise) Palm of Delaware, Ohio; sisters, Rena (Mike) Hadlock of Ashtabula, and Tina (Robin Criffield) of Carboro, NC; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

He will be greatly missed every single day. If you had the chance to meet John, you had a chance to have a nice conversation and made a friend for life.

Dad, rest easy and know we love you,

forever and always.
