Elizabeth "Betty" Carberry Obituary

Elizabeth Jean Carberry

ASHTABULA - Betty Carberry, 93, passed away at home in her sleep in the early hours of the morning on Thursday and went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2022.

Betty was born in Ashtabula on March 28, 1929, during the beginning of the Great Depression, to the loving parents Manuel and Mary (Smith) Rebera.  She was 1 of 12 children.

Betty was a 1947 graduate of Ashtabula High School. She was a hard worker, she dedicated 22 years of her life working at the Ashtabula Rubber Company.

Coming from such a large family she always understood the importance of having a close and loving family; and on May 6, 1950 she married Dennis Carberry II and together they started a beautiful and loving family of their own.

Betty kept busy every day, she did the daily puzzles in the newspaper and kept busy around the house.  She was an animal lover, but it was her cats that she loved the most.  While there are so many other things to list that she enjoyed, it was family that gave her life meaning and brought her the most joy; from sitting around the kitchen table with her family, friends, and neighbors eating cake and drinking coffee; to attending her grandkids school and sporting events; to holidays and family dinners.  She lived her life for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving family: her children: Dennis (Jill) Carberry III, Mary (John) Askew, and Judy Carberry, with whom Betty made her home; her grandchildren: Christine Noce, Aimee Strong, Jeremy Carberry, Charlene Carberry, Jonathan Carberry, Alicia Carberry, Michael Carberry, Daniel Carberry, Chivonne Meyers, Christopher Carberry, Bethany Askew, Ann Miller, and Cliff (Jessica) Askew; her great-grandchildren: Ava Miller, Travon Miller, Matthew Askew, John Askew, Tessa Askew, Zachary (Brie) Sweat, Dominique Harris, Antonio Harris, Kyra Harris, Jayvon Riddle, Arrionn Riddle, Natalya Noce, Kian Watkins, Zavier Watkins, Vincent Noce  and Ziiah Watkins; her great-great-grandchildren: Laniyah Boles, Kylie Frost, Montez Etheridge II, NaLaiah Hopper and Mia'mor Harris; as well as many nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by Debbie Jones, Terry Strong, Jason Strong, and Chad Strong whom she always had the fondest memories of and still thought of as her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dennis II who passed away on January 25, 2015; as well as her brothers: John, Lawrence, Ernest, Robert, Joseph  Raymond and Anthony; and her sisters: Irene Ray, Rita Grabski. Sr. Rosalyn Rebera and Theresa Silva.

Services to celebrate her life will be Monday (Sept 12, 2022) at the Andrus Party Center, 2259 West Avenue, Ashtabula.  The family will receive guests on Monday morning from 11:00-12:00 and the service will begin at 12:00

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to the family or to the Harbor Cat Rescue, 1016 Joseph Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, in her name.  The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Western Reserve for their kindness, exceptional care and support during Mom’s final days; especially Jody.
