Arden James “Jim” Gluvna passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family nearby on February 9, 2021.
Arden James “Jim” Gluvna was born on October 25, 1925 in Kingsville, Ohio to Andrew J. Gluvna, Sr. and Julia Gluvna. Jim has been preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph (Lillian) Gluvna, Mary (Harry) Garavalgia, Ann (John) Beno, Andrew (Jeannette) Gluvna, Delores (Harry) Jordan and Thomas (Gloria) Gluvna. He is survived by his brother, John (Gale) Gluvna. Jim is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was married to his loving wife, Eleanor Louise (Nisky) Gluvna, who passed away in 2017. Jim and Eleanor lived in Ashtabula. They had two loving children, Mary Ann (Thomas) Blatz and Arden James “Jim” Gluvna, Jr. Jim and Eleanor had five beloved granddaughters: Allison Blatz, Andrea Blatz, Angela Blatz, Anna Blatz and Amanda Blatz.
Jim graduated from Ashtabula High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked at the East Ohio Gas Company for more than 33 years. He was a member of St. Joseph and Mother of Sorrows Parishes for many years. He was also a member and past Grand Knight of the Ashtabula Council of the Knights of Columbus. In the last few years of his life, Jim moved to Mentor to be closer to his family. He became a member of St. John Vianney Parish.
A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor, Ohio on Thursday, May 27, at 1 p.m. Fr. Thomas Johns will officiate. Jim will be interred at his final resting alongside his beloved wife, Eleanor, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ashtabula.
Memorials or donations may be made to St. John Vianney Parish or St. Bede the Venerable Parish, both of Mentor.
