Mamie Maki Obituary

Mamie M. Maki, age 99, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at Carington Park Nursing Home in Ashtabula. She was born August 13, 1919 in Finland, the daughter of Urho and Elizabeth (Kangas) Wirta,

Mamie and her husband, Tauno, owned and operated Hil-Mak Seafood restaurant for many years, now run by her son, Lauri, and daughter-in-law, Karen. She enjoyed gardening, walking, and visiting friends. She especially loved time spent with her family. She made her home with her daughter, Kristine. Mamie was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristine; son, Lauri (Karen); grandson, David (Amy); great grandchildren, Graham and Elsa; and her beloved dog, Peter.

Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Tauno, and sister, Irja.

A Memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
