Loretta "Lori" DeLaat Obituary

Lori DeLaat, 83, found her seat at our Lord’s side on Friday, October 18, 2019.  She passed away peacefully with her daughter and grandson by her side at her home in Powell TN.  She was born February 16, 1936 in Cleveland OH, the daughter of Anthony and Theresa Kerze.

Lori grew up in Kirtland OH, moving to Ashtabula in 1956 after marrying her husband.  She was an Ashtabula resident until 2015.  During her life in Ashtabula she was an active member of the Mother of Sorrows Parish. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, traveling and visiting with her many cherished friends.  While she was always a giver, she was also a competitor.  One of her proudest moments was making a hole-in-one on the 16th hole with a 6 iron at Chapel Hills in 2002.

After raising her children, Lori went back to work to keep herself fulfilled.  She spent 20 years working for Catholic Charities and also worked 10 years for the Ashtabula Municipal Courthouse, retiring at the age of 75 in 2011.  Lori was a devoted sister, mother, and grandmother and loved her family unselfishly.  She touched many lives through her years and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; and her son-in-law, Chuck Sasser.   She leaves behind her children: Karen Sasser, Dennis (Jeannie) DeLaat, Kelly (Bill) Gheres, Gordon (Michelle) DeLaat, and Douglas DeLaat.  She will also be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren: Kevron Lindsey, David DeLaat, Kyle, Tyler, and Evan Gheres, Tony and Jamie DeLaat, and her beloved great grand daughter, Hailey Gheres.  She is also survived by her brother, Allan ( Charlene ) Kerze; and her niece, Amanda Kerze.

At her request, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her memory at 10 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2019 at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mother of Sorrows Church, 1464 West 6th Street, Ashtabula Harbor OH.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
