Gregory A. Loyd was unexpectedly called home on August 12, 2019. He was born in Ashtabula on October 17, 1953 to Howard F. and Margret M. (Wrisley) Loyd. He graduated from Harbor High School in 1972 and went on to meet his lifelong love, Sharon (Wilcom) Loyd. They were married on October 6, 1979 and would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this year.
Greg enjoyed many hobbies but was most proud of his family. He was able to enjoy a great weekend with all his family, spending Saturday at his family reunion and Sunday at his wife's family reunion. His two daughters and grandchildren were his biggest accomplishments. He also enjoyed shooting his flintlock black powder muzzle loader with his friends in the Indian Creek Long Rifles as a member of the Ashtabula Rod and Gun Club, primitive camping, fishing with friends, working on his 1979 Ford truck, four wheeling in his Jeep, and exercising in the pool at the YMCA.
Gripper, as he was known by some, was everyone's friend. He was a man of his word, and would help anyone. Greg was able to make anyone smile and would talk to anyone who would listen, including all his friends at MFG, where he retired from in 2018 after 33 years of service.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Howard F. Loyd; and two grandchildren he finally got to meet in heaven; and many beloved friends.
He is survived by his mother, Margret (Peg) Loyd; beloved wife, Sharon (Wilcom) Loyd; in-laws, Bob and Charlotte Wilcom; children, Amy and Scott Brown, Kimberly Loyd, and Jason Mitchell; grandchildren, Aiden F. and Evelyn C. Brown; siblings, Ann Hollback, Marcena Loyd, Mark and Tina Loyd, Diane and Mike Leposa, Brian and Barb Wilcom, and Traci and Kevin Hodges; nieces and nephews, Brittany and Tanner Breedlove, Tori Belke and Katelyn Loyd, Leif and Arthur Hollback, Jennifer (Andrew) Locy (Addison and Joshua Prusinski), Michael and Mark Leposa, Sarah and Jacob Wilcom, and Erik and Lauren Hodges; as well as many long time close friends.
Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, OH 44004. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church, 4317 Park Avenue, Ashtabula, OH 44004 with Betty Weckerly officiating.
