F. Eugene Brooks

F. Eugene Brooks, 91, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at his residence. He was born October 23, 1926 in Smithtown, McCreary County KY, the son of Alvin and Nora (Worley) Brooks.

He worked as a coal miner in his early years near Stearns KY, and then worked as a tree trimmer until retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1945 to November 1946 during WWII. He received an Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Ribbon.

He lived a long, joyous life. He enjoyed many things. He loved spending time with family. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. His most beloved activity was raising and running his Redbone Coonhounds. He loved to get together with his hunting friends to go listen to the hounds run. He was always the provider of donuts and coffee for a "coffee break." He was a lifelong member and one of the founders of the Ashtabula County Coon Hunters Association, in Jefferson OH. He also loved to garden and had a knack for growing anything. He was fond of watching the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nina Marie Mullins, whom he married March 17, 1951; two sons, Jerry and Terry Brooks; and all seven of his siblings.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Bonnie) Brooks of Pine Knot KY, Timothy Brooks of Ashtabula, and Mary (Roger) Davis of Ft. Meyers FL; eight grandchildren, Christopher Brooks, Jeremie (Emily) Brooks, and Mary (George) Sexton all of Oneida TN, Oakley Brooks of Melbourne FL, Katie (Kevin Travis) Brooks of DeMotte IN, Timothy and William Davis of Ft. Meyers FL, and Jacob Brooks of Davenport IA; and many great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Potti Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula OH www.pottifuneralhome.com.
