Richard Conklin Obituary



Richard Mac Conklin, 85, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital June 17, 2018.

He was born October 11, 1932 in Ashtabula, the son of Franklin and Isabel Conklin.
Richard graduated from Edgewood Senior High in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy
during the Korean War 1952-1954 with the U. S. Navy 6th Fleet Flagship as a Machinist
Mate. He was employed for 19 years at Union Carbide, was manager of the Rendevous
Restaurant, and was owner and chef for many years of Don Rico's Italian Restaurant.

A kind, generous man always willing to help a friend in need who loved all animals,
especially horses. As a thoroughbred race horse owner, he enjoyed going to the race
track to watch them race. His race horse, Rideable, held the record for winning
the most races in a meet at Commodore Race Track. Richard was a loyal supporter
of Cleveland sports teams: Browns, Cavs and Indians.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Conklin and Isabel Strong;
sisters, Isabel Jane Rice and Loretta Conklin; and brother, Franklin (Junior) Conklin.

Richard is survived by his children, Jill (Gary) Lillvis of Ashtabula OH, Richard (Chris) Conklin
of Las Vegas NV, Lori Grace of Cincinnati OH, and Janet (Mike) Kato of Madison OH;
five grandchildren, Greg and Aaron Lillvis, Josh Grace, Christy Bucci, and Lindsey
Conklin; and four great-grandchildren, Julianna , Michael, Gino, and Nico Bucci.

A private memorial service will be held graveside at Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue,
Cleveland OH 44110.
