Anthony Gross Obituary



Tony Gross, 98, of Ashtabula, passed away July12, 2018 at home with his family by his side.
Tony was born in Cleveland, Ohio to James and Mary (Medvedev) Gross on November 10,1919.

Tony graduated from Geneva High School in 1938. He was on the football team, and in his senior year, Geneva won the Lake Shore League Title for the first time in 30 years. Tony served in the Army during WWII. After the war, he worked at Rayon in Painesville. He then went on to drive a truck for Independent Towel Supply Company until retiring. He was an avid reader and enjoyed books on history.

He is survived by five children: Sharon (Wes) Williams, Barbara (Jim) Urban, and Terry (Dave) Weir all of Ashtabula; Carol Freeborn of Bradenton, Florida; Anthony Gross Jr. from Orlando, Florida; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his brother, Charlie Gross from Mentor, Ohio; his sister, Donna (Metcalf) Luaces from Jacksonville, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel (Metcalf) whom he married in 1955 and passed away May 27, 2016; son-in-law, Wesely Williams; sister, Mary; and brothers, Joseph, Albert, James, and John.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff from Personal Home Healthcare and Hospice and Hospice of The Western Reserve for their dedicated and compassionate care.

A private celebration of Tony's and Ethel's life together will be held at a later date. Burial will be in
Saybrook Cemetery.
